#CU09 A Summary - Lisa Harvey's Blog
Connecting Up 2009 conference was on in Sydney in May. #CUA09, as it quickly became known in our tagged and tweeted world, is an opportunity for not-for-profits to gather, learn, share and inspire each other, and that is what really happens.
Tech tools to improve organisational internal communication
Internal communication plays a big role role in how effectively an organisation operates. A friend works for a large company that spent $180 000 recently to lower partitions in their open plan offices to 'improve communication' - I have never worked for an organisation that large, but I bet it is annoying trying to get work done listening to everyone's 'communication'!
At the other end of the scale an editorial in a new magazine I am buying was about the communication issues in their office of six. They didn't want to have daily meetings because they take up too much time.
All of the Energetica team work primarily from home, we have a Sydney office for meetings and as a base - I live in Adelaide so I am rarely in the office!

The electric vehicle to get us to the holy grail of social innovation
Recently Michelle Obama announced an intention to invest $50 million in funding to start a new White House Office of Social Innovation.

By the way, How's your IT?
In a busy not-for-profit it is a difficult job to juggle all the things you have on your plate, and it is not easy to remain on top of your IT. We have found that in many organisations IT can get a little forgotten. It may appear to be going along fine, but a major organisational change, or a hardware or software failure will reveal how close to the edge you were running.
We have also found that organisations can benefit from a different perspective, and a new set of ideas injected into their technology setup. This is the perfect time of year to do a review. You will get an idea of what you need to spend next financial year and you will have a clear picture of how well your IT is working for you. It is good risk management.
