Lisa Harvey and Lyndsey Jackson from Energetica had the pleasure of running a two day workshop for the Municipal Association of Victoria in September.
The workshop looked at online community engagement and discussed the tools, strategies and examples for local government.
With participants from rural and metropolitan councils from Victoria, the workshops were an interesting look at the challenges and approaches to web 2.0 and social media. Participants were a mix of councillors and council staff. With staff being primarily from a communications and policy development, which in its self provided interesting discussions and perspectives on engagement, community and council business.
The use of social media and web 2.0 tools and engagement strategies is continuing to evolve within government, and for the majority it is early days, but the signs are clear that this is an emerging and expanding practice that gvernments need to get their head around.
If your organisation is interested in running or attending a similar workshop please contact us, we will tailor the sessions to meet your needs, focus and experience.
