Website accessibility is an important issue for Energetica, it is the nature of not-for-profit organisations to strive for social inclusion, and the same is true for digital inclusion. Many of our customers are at the forefront of driving online accessibility change.
Fortunately, site accessibility is increasingly becoming a mainstream concern and we are noticing a dramatic increase in the number of organisations considering site accessibility as a key site outcome when developing or modifying their site.
Recently a fantastic project, the AWARe project has been created by Media Access Australia (MAA). The project provides an easy way for people to give their input about the accessibility of prominent websites.
Accessibility can be complex, and the compexity is compounded by areas of conflicting information, over-information and under-information! AWARe allows for constructive dialogue that bridges the gap between website execution and user expectation and usability.
Visit the AWARe project website to find out more. You can register to the site to add your own analysis about a number of listed websites, and to read reviews and results for the accessibility level of each site.
In November the following sites are open for review:
- Parliament of Australia - Live Broadcasting
- Government 2.0 Taskforce
- National Library - Newspapers
- Prime Minister's Media Gallery
- Social Inclusion
